I believe the current recomendation is three at most. But I know several women who have had more than that. If there is no alternative it will be done - to save the baby if not the mother, in the most awful cases. There was quite a famous case last year of a woman who had already had 6 c-sections having her 7th child by normal vaginal delivery. Gosh, I bet that was a horribly worrying case for the hospital... (she's fine and so are all her children)

There have been women who have had nearly a dozen c-sections that I've read about in biographies. I had three myself and was not told I could not have another. The old scar tissue was excised with each new incision, so the wound healed cleanly and well. I think as long as a woman isn't having extreme complications and her doctor doesn't see her as being at risk, having to have children by surgical delivery shouldn't be that limiting. However, I have heard of individual doctors suggesting only having two or three sections, but I've seen no evidence more are risky, so I'm not sure what they're basing that advice on.

I have had 5 c-sections and getting ready in March to have my sixth. The only thing is that it poses a higher risk for complications. I was concerned also but my doctor explained all the risk. I didn't have any complications with my last five so my doc says I should be fine. It also depends on the woman's health and what her Doctor feels is best for her also. I can say the pain after my 4th c-section was not that bad to me but my menstrual periods is very painful after each due to the scarring. Every individual is different though.

That completely depends on whether you have an excessive buildup of scar tissue from previous c-sections.
I personally know a woman who's had 5 but there was some concern with her last one but it turned out perfect and she really doesn't show any bad scarring from them.
This is one of those questions where the answer is totally dependant on the woman and doctor involved.

I am not sure but I would think that there is a limit the doctor recommends, however if they say "only 3" and you get pregnant again...well guess you'd have to have 4 if you are one of those woman that can not do natural labor.

Doctors say the limit is three. But they do not know why.
