I have no idea about ps2 games at all.
The games he plays now are NBA, Racing, Final Fantasy, football, Godfather... Can you suggest me some games that he might like?

for racing I suggest Gran Turismo 4... but I got very addicted, if he does too you won't be seeing him for a while!
football season is beginning, Madden 07 is the most popular there.

Well since the majority of the games you showed us are of the sports genre, I assume he's a big sports game fan. So any of these are highly recommended sports games. Any of which would be a fine choice to get him...

try getting him god of war or metal gear solid 3....two of the best games on the ps2 by far....although if all else fails you cant go wrong with gta san andreas

Get him a TOMB RAIDER LEGEND cd (if he likes adventures games)
its an awsome game..... it got 9.4 out of 10.

since he plays mostly rpgs and action games, maybe a change is good? try silent hill or fatal frame. unless he hates horror stuff.
