The link provided is from a CNN story just released. The president of Iran wants to debate the president of this country.
1)Do you think the US should participate in an open forum debate?
2)What parameters for the debate would you like to have implemented?
3)Who should the moderator be?
and finally....
4)If you had one "intelligent" question to ask either president what would it be?

I don't think it would work. It wouldn't be a scholarly debate of the type we think of on university campuses or even in presidential elections.

It would be more like listening to a two people going through a divorce and arguing about who should have custody of the kids. Each side will tell a tainted, self serving story, neither one telling the whole truth, and neither having any intentions at all of compromise and rational problem solving. And on top of all that, each listens to a different God.

A public debate also puts each political combatant in a position not losing face, and each has already put forth a cowboy image in their own countries.

this idea was only put forth because they know Bush wouldnt do it. And if he did go along with it, he would lose pathetically. Im NOT saying Iran is in the right, im just saying Bush is a complete moron. To be president, your IQ should be larger than your shoe size.

The proposal to hold a televised debate is laughable and certainly won't be accepted. I do have a question to the Iranian president, however: can any negotiation be called "serious" if you remove from the table the reason why the other party is negotiating?

no debate. they'll do what has been requested of them, peacefully, or our leaders will send troops to knock them down into the dirt that they call a nation. my question, if such a debate were tolerated, would be this: (to Iran) where do you see yourself in five years?

I don't think George Bush would do very well in a live debate.
He's not exactly one to think on his feet. Iran would use the opportunity to embarrass America.

They are both political giants...thus it doesn't matter what they're asked. You won't hear their ulterior motives from their mouths...

We don't deal with terrorist. Talking one on one to them gives them credibility. I wouldn't talk to them.
