I feel for the residents of Florida that get hit by hurricanes every year. I donate and try to help them in their time of need. So, not all of us forgets what happens to Florida. As far as this topic, I am sure alot of you that don't live in La. are sick of hearing about Katrina, but it has done more than just a little damage, and you wouldn't think it is "no big deal" if you still are going through it a year later. The "idiots" that you so call were victims that had no where to go nor the money to get anywhere, the "stubborn" old people you talk about had no assistance getting out, do you think that a person in their hospital bed that is confined could get out of their bed and drive themselves to safety? Until you understand about human life I would suggest you stop reading all together.I guess U have all the answers of evacuation, God help you if you have to go through anything like this....then who would be the IDIOT?

Are you serious!!!Personally, I feel that the correct protocol was not taken. Many residents of New Orleans did not have power up to 10 hours before the storm so how could one possibly evacuate. Also, it was not the hurricane that caused all the disaster it was the lack of responsibility of the engineer who waited 40 + years to adhere to the codes and upkeep of the levees. When the levees broke that's when all hell broke loose. That's why people blame the govt. Do you believe if the Statue of liberty needed upkeep or maintenance it will be ignored for 30 + years or even the White House. i don't think so? Ignoring the levees was just the political agenda of the big time builders to rebuild New Orleans as a Casino district. they were just awaiting something to destroy and clear as many poor and minorities as they could without paying them off to move. Gentrification, look it up!!
Imagine your 16 year old cousin picked up for a possible suspect for vandalism on Aug. 28, 2005 just because he fit the description of a young black male with a red t-shirt and blue jeans. He sat in a holding cell for 48 hours. Due to all the drama with Katrina he was not given the phone call nor did he get evacuated. As the water grew him and other whom were stopped or detained by the police just set in a cell while the water was rising. They all drowned many were not even convicted nor did they committ crimes (runaways, profiled suspects) See the media left out so many things and you have the audacity to say its whining many people died slow and painfully, watching there lives pass by why the water rose. Our gov't who say the work for all people have their political agendas and the caliber of people whom made up New Orleans did not make their agenda!! And Katrina was an aid in whipping out what they see as the bottom percentage!!

It makes me sick on my stomach to read questions like yours. How could you compare hurricane Katrina to a pothole? I went through it in MS. New Orleans is under sea level and everybody knows that but nobody expeceted the levees to break. The hurricane didnt destroy New Orleans, it was the levees breaching that caused all the damage. This was the worst natural disaster to ever hit the U.S. thats why we're still talking about it and we're still concerned. Florida does get hit with hurricanes all the time but not with the devistation that this storm caused in its aftermath. Maybe you should stop reading the news. I bet if a disaster like this destroyed your hometown you would be a little bit more compassionate.

The people who died were not idiots. New Orleans
wasn't completely destroyed, it was just flooded
for the most part. Towns in Mississippi were destroyed. I agree...You should quit reading the news if it upsets you so much. I would love to stop talking about Katrina and move on with my life,
however; I live here in Miss. and I see the destuction everyday of my life so I have no choice.
By the way potholes do not destroy towns, lifes and
city infrastructures.

Guess it would be a big deal if you lived through that, and still have to pick up the pieces of your life a year later!....It didnt do "some damage" like potholes do...it wiped out cities, towns and peoples lives. But I do agree that some of the coverage is overkill, and what ticks me off is that SOME people who lived on welfare and in dumps and were too lazy to work for a living before Katrina now are getting free healthcare and homes, that we are paying for, and will continue to do so well into the future.

You know what makes me sick, all of you people. Wine wine wine Katrina was bad. Correct it screwed up some stuff. Lets be honest though every single person who lived in New Orleans is... was an idiot. On to the next topic of discussion, all of you band wagon natural disaster pricks. No one pays any attention to people who deal with disaster every single day of there lives, I of course am talking about the homeless. Those people live every day of there lives like Katrina survivors do, oh wait.. no, they didnt. They still have it worse then Katrina survivors. At least the government helps Katrina survivors out. If I were homeless I would be pissed off beyond belief. All a disaster really does is make people in this country, which have it insanely easy, realize how much it must blow to live in nearly every other country in the world. You want to donate a dollar to something donate it to someone is Israel who has there house blown up every single day, and there house isn't even a house, it is a beat down cardboard box or multiple boxes they found outside of one of the 6 remaining stores in there country. Those people live about as well off as the homeless, and yet still people who survived this disaster live better then they do. The people in Mississippi(man i love spelling your state) you have a case, it sucks for you. Your just trying to be Mississippi, kicking it by New Orleans. Then bam devastation. You still have it better then 1/3rd of the world, or more. As for New Orleans, if you lived there an want people to feel bad for you.. that doesn't work. You lived there because you loved raves and booze and cheep hookers. The End.
P.S..... EVERYONE KNEW THE LEVEES WOULD BREAK!

Well you know it was a big deal!!!! IT was life changing for those people!!!!!!!! People lost family, friends and other close people to them. Also, people dont have places to live. You have a computer which means a house people need comfort still. So that want people to know it can happen to anyone and its not a dream.
