I have both and I can tell you they both are wonderful pets, but if you are a beginner herp. get the beardie, they have a more docile temperment. Savvies heve thir own personalities like a person, Balrog my savanna monitor responds to his name, comes when he hears his name, stands on his hind legs,(which is awesome to watch because he is over 4 feet long and can almost prop himself up on tabletops:) ). But I have had reptiles for over 20 years and know what I am doing with them and do not recommend the savvie if you are afraid of getting bit. All animals have the potential to bit, but there are those that hurt more, like a monitor lizard, the pit bull of the reptile world.

I think that you should so get the bearded dragon they are the coolest I've had one before and they are the greatest!! They are so cool and I absolutly love their texture!! So I think it would also be best to get a bearded dragon over a savannah monitor!!

Personally I like the bearded out of the 2, unless you are looking for growth, the monitor will get bigger - but if you want something to hold, go with the bearded as they are very unique.
But - if you are looking to just get a lizard to put in a a tank and not handle very often - go with a chameleon...

Beardie. They are smaller, tamer, easier to care for etc... Monitors are NOT good beginner lizards. Savannahs can be tamed, but a bite from one of those would be a LOT worse than a bite from a dragon.

Get the bearded dragon. They can be tamed if you spend enough time with them and you can carry them around on your shoulder. They are with few exceptions very docile lizards. The monitors are not human friendly and do not make very good pets unless you just want to look at it through glass and feed it.

when you're experienced and understand what to assume with lizards... a savannah will be an excellent puppy. in the different case a bearded dragon will be extra constructive. they're both purely as rewarding, yet a more effective lizard means so a lot extra room they take in. and a ton extra money.

Simple...Bearded Dragon...they actually have personalities!
I have owned both and the thing that I have learned the most is monitors are much harder to tame and they can provide a NASTY bite.
No matter what you get PLEASE read all you can so you really understand how to best take care of them.

Savannah monitors are great, but they require alot of space and can be aggressive. Beardies are much easier and less expensive to care for.

I would recomend the beardie. They will let you handle them, they don't get too big, and you won't have to worry about it eating your dog/little brother.

If you really have to ask I would say neither. Reptiles would be too much for you.
