If so, here is how. The American mores (values) are that everyone can be whomever they want to be. "All men are created equal". To make sure that every child had a fighting chance policies were created to allow every child to attend school free of cost. This was designed to even out the playing field. This was extremely idealistic because all men are not equal, but the founders of this nation believed that an informed citizenry was vital to the success of the democracy.

Humans have various needs. Food, sex are some of the basic needs. We only move on when the basic needs have been satisfied. However due to the individual difference and as social beings we need each other to exchange goods and services. Education increase this productivity and ability to harness resources i.e. the pen is mightier than the sword. The more productive, the more we move out of the basic needs and the less "animal" like we become.
