Which are the best sort of brick to use as paving?

preferably cheap, but frostproof...and where would I get them, I am in Herts, UK.

Clay paving bricks are still quite acceptable and durable, albeit costly. Not to be confused with mass produced cement ones, (not that there is necessarily anything wrong with them).

You should be able to find clay paving bricks in many shapes & colors, but not all shapes and colors are necessarily right for your application. You may want to solicit input from a landscape designer to understand what color is right for your application.

Next, understand that the foundation for the pavers is critical to help prevent eventual warping. The best substrate is a combination of packed gravel covered by packed sand.

When it comes to pavers and the time it takes to do the job correctly I would advise against skimping on the quality, I guess what I am saying is there are some good quality products out there that are less expensive than others but the cheap ones will end up costing you in the long run.

We just did ours in red with grey edging block pavers. We got them from our local builders merchants!

get them from your local wickes or builder centre if you want new or find a local reclamation yard for second hand (bit more expensive but better quality) hope this helps
