i got to say that i'm really a liar, cuz i must not say what i'm really thinking, i'm just taught to accept what i was told, i've learnt to praise the government to the sky. If i make demonstration against government, or offend the leaders, i'll pay the price, that's why there's no demonstration here, vietnam does not have real peace, it's just a fraud, a lie.

Chao Ang/Chi;

The Vietnamese Communist Government knows that their time in power is coming to an end. If you are from the South, then you can see this with your own eyes. Communism does not work. Taking away people's freedoms after they've had a taste of freedom only makes the people want it more. Your government knows this very well.

The new Vietnamese leadership is expected to make great strides towards Vietnam's inevitable democracy. Your government very much wants to have good relations with the U.S. and this relationship will force the Vietnam governemnt to become more democratic.

Ultimately, what has and will change the Vietnamese government is the younger generation (those born after your American War). This generation across the country want to have jobs and live in a modern society. The Vietnamese government knows this, and have already made greate effort to accomodate.

One day, the older generation will no longer be running your government. Communism wil die in Vietnam as it has in the rest of the world. That will be when freedom becomes permanent in Vietnam.

Good luck to you.

This is an excellent response-answer to the army of liberals, arm-chair critics who constantly regard the US and Pres Bush as "mass-murderers", "terrorists" and other negative labels. They have the luxury of voicing dissent, the right to protest and the freedom of expression - liberties enshrined in the constitution.

My answer is you can't have it both ways - the Communist North took over whole of Vietnam and one of the results is the sacrificing of personal liberties. It is the price you have to pay to live unmolested. There is no room for criticism, dissent or demonstration in a communist-ruled state.

America tried to help Vietnam to stay free... but Americans at home were against the US Adminstration and the US soldiers, labelling them with wicked names. An almost similiar situation is being repeated now because of US involvement in Iraq, Afghanistan - the freedom of Iraqis, Afghans lies with the US... and Americans at home.

That is what happens under a communist regime, and that is why America went war there in the first place to prevent just this sort of thing. I just regret what our sorry politcians did to you after Nixon left office. They turned their backs on you and let the communists take over. I apologize for that even though I didn;t have any say in it, I was in the Navy ay the time. Vietnam could be a wonderful place if the communists would just go away.
