While conditions in the Superdome were undeniably horrendous, the reports of violence and murder were apparently greatly exaggerated. Of the handful of deaths that occurred in the Superdome, only one was believed to be a homicide.

There was a big crime outbreak after Hurricane Katrina. I think most of it was gang violence and looting. I think what you have heard is a rumor. The superdome was completely evacuated when living conditions became unsanitary. No dead bodies were found that I know of. But there was a lot of trash and sewage.

I am from Oklahoma, but I've followed the aftermath of the disaster pretty closely.

I teach in Louisiana and the evacuees from New Orleans tell of horror stories from the storm ---many people say that there were people raped in the superdome but I don't know for sure
