The government clearly isn't interested in solving the problems that would make this country a better place. When was the last time you heard somebody say "I just smoked a joint, and I'm feeling rowdy. Time to go out and kick some asses!" They'd have to either have a chemical imbalance, or be mixing it with booze. They'd rather sit home in front of the TV or engage in creative pursuits...it's a more introverted drug than alcohol...which make no mistake, is a DRUG, though not classified as such for reasons of profit. If you can't stay at home not bothering anybody, getting a little high, then you're not living in a free society. Freedom should include practices that don't bother anybody without big brotherly guidance, which when implemented results in profits for this "benevolent" savior. Alcohol, on the other hand, causes people to go out in public and get into trouble, though some people drink at home, but it suppresses fear in a way that pot doesn't, in addition to being harmful to every organ in the body. Involving domestic violence, how often is weed the culprit? "Studies" have shown that pot is more packed with tar than marijuana, but these studies are obviously based on similar amounts consumed. Studies tend to be misleading...look to the source...the people paying for the studies. They're the ones deliberately causing the deception. I'd say there's no reason of benefit to the consumer that pot should be deemed criminal, or in any way illegal while these other things (booze, cigarettes) continue to flow freely in our society.

I think we should stop wasting money on it. The fact is, after all the work of finding them, arresting them and prosecuting them, only a few will really serve any significant sentence. The prisons are much too crowded to house every person who ever lit up.
Also enforcement is so unequal it's a joke. I know a woman who called 911 because she was badly beaten with several broken bones. When the police arrived, they searched her home and arrested her for possession because she is kind of an older biker chick type. They routinely just ignore the young kids or give them warnings. It's not really a racial thing or anything like that, just if the police like you.
The only problem I see with decriminalization is that there is no good test to see if a person is impaired. With alcohol, it's easy. If there is more than a tiny amount of alcohol in the blood or breath, a person is drunk. Marijuana takes much longer to break down and is stored in the body. A person can come up positive on a drug test weeks after the last use. It does not mean that he is impaired at the time of the test. Still, I think it is unfair to outlaw it for everyone because some people will drive. If a person will not be driving or operating machinery, for example a blind person, there seems to be no good reason to prohibit it.
I do not use marijuana or other illegal drugs and only take legally prescribed medication when truly necessary. I do drink a small amount of alcohol a couple times a year. That doesn't mean I feel others should be prohibited from pursuing happiness in their own way, as long as no one else is getting hurt.

A few points. Yes, I agree, Marijuana should be legalized in this country. Not just decriminalized, but legalized. As a member of the "Guns and Dope" Party, I'm all for the legalization and free use and ownership of firearms, narcotics, and whatever else your hobby is. Laws that seek to enforce morality have been proven to not only be ineffective, but are actually harmful to the national makeup of a society.

Side effects of quitting marijauna and similar weeds are terrible. I was an marijauna addict. I started coughing up stuff from my lungs. It wasn't very nice, but the docter told me it was normal. My lungs were getting rid of the crap from the nicotine!
To close down the side effects and for a proper guidance, I followed these guys at http://QuitMarijauna.DrHealthExpert.com and WOW, the entire process went super smoothly and finally I have got rid of this addiction of mine.
I am super happy now. You too can follow the same path my mate.. Best Luck

Makes sense but never going to happen. You can make money selling beer wine and liquor to people.
Where I live weed, grows like, well, weeds. Not primo stuff mind you, but if I wanted to, I could rig up a few lights and some potting soil and grow enough for "personal use" in this small apartment if I could keep the cat from chewing on it. (Have to get her some catnip, only fair.)
cui bono. or in simple English, Watch the money

Yes I do, but it should only be available to adults over 25 years of age. Also it should have taxes as high as cigarettes or higher. Also, it should be a felony to provide marijuana to anyone under 18 and a misdemeanor to provide it to anyone 18-24.
I think this would work very well!!!!!!

I'd prefer we legalize and tax, MJ, rather than jail people who grow, sell, and use it. I know that is not a perfect solution and, in inself, will cause other problems, but I think that is preferable to the system we have now.

No. It doesn't matter what the statistics are...it is still a DRUG.
You have to keep in mind that they're dipping the marijuana in chemicals to actively hook the user in to buying more and you want to legalize that....no way. You would have a chaos on your jhands.
