Because two wrongs do make a right.
In logic, let's take a sentence as an equation:
Don't not go to the store. [- (-) = +] If you don't NOT go to the store, you are going to the store. That's why, in English grammar, you can't use a double negative because it makes a postive. They negate themselves by being in the same sentence.
'You can't do nothing' [- (-) = +] (double negative) actually means you can do something. You can't do anything [-(+) = -]

Imagine 10 people owe me $10 each but not yet repayed me. This means in algebrical notation I owe minus $10 to minus 10 people..So how much I am worth ? $100 obviously. So munus multiplied by minus is plus.

Solution:

We know that -1 = -1

=> 1 = -1/-1 (Remember this 1 = -1/-1 (we apply this below))

=> -1 = -1 * (-1/-1) (both side of above equation is multiplied with -1)

=> -1/(-1/-1) = -1

a negative divided by a negative is a positive because a negative multiplied by a negative equals a positive
this can be explained through this sentence:

I did NOT say NOTHING.

in this sentence there is a negative (NOT) multiplied by another negative (NOTHING) . an equivalent sentence would be:

I DID say SOMETHING.

this sentence is completely positive. Therefore a negative times a negative equals a positive.
