no woman secretly desires the idea that she could lose her man. She is doing that because she is afraid if she doesn't look better than the competition she will lose her man. It's a way of protecting her assets.

Yes. Thinking you could lose your man (even if he's awful and a bore) is a big loss of face for any woman. There's also the element of - he's dreadful and I can't even keep him interested??? which makes a woman cling a bit.

However, if you always have girlfriends like this, they are a very insecure lot and will probably just get nuttier as time goes on. And it isn't nice to tease unpleasantly like this.
