I love this question. Yes! Any person who is born in Africa is African, despite their color. A person born in England, no matter what color, is English. A person born in Germany, a German....NO MATTER WHAT!

I have a friend, an American, who was born in America as were his parents and grandparents. In fact, he doesnt have any people he's ever met or known who came from Africa. But he is black and therefore says, I am an African American.

I say, no you are not. You are an America and no different than I. He became offended. I laughed because I live in Germany and spoke with a man from Nigeria the other day in a bar, and told him this story. He laughed and said... "That guy is in no way an African American. He's an American whose black. He's never even BEEN to Africa!!!"

So see? No matter what race, where your born is what you are. A white person can be African!!

You are an African. These United States of America has missed the true meaning of origin. Who were the first Americans, the Indians. All white people, black people, yellow people, and possibly blue people came from somewhere else to form a more perfect union. That union is the United States of America and according to our constitution, a person born the in the United States is an American. Whether you are white, black, yellow, whatever color, nationality or religion, you are an American. People from other countries want to become an American for the opportunities America brings. Why would an American want to be called by any other name? Even though you are a white man in a mostly black country, you are still an African. African-Americans, would not want to live in Africa and have no idea the challenges Africa brings. Cuban-Americans, they left Cuba for a reason. Even our founding fathers left England to escape the King's rule. Why are we not called English-Americans? Because we are Americans. The English are from England, Russians are from Russia, Spanish are from Spain, Mexicans are from Mexico and yes, the French are from France. So, therefore my friend you are African because you were born in your country, Africa. Good Luck!

Africa is a continent of many countries. A person born in any of these countries is known as an African, just any one born in America is an American etc. It is used as a nationality distinction.

African is also a racial designation used to describe someone of mainly black African-***** descent (but only some; not for e.g. Arab African descent). White people / caucasians born in African can therefore be denoted as African on the basis of Nationality but not on the basis of race. So you can therefore have a "white"/ "asian" / "indian" African.

yes........an african is someone born in africa. People who are born in america and are black are americans not africans. I would guess about 99% of so called african americans have never set foot in the country. If they are so proud to be african perhaps they should move there.
