Why would an islamist soldier take up arms against the US?

What is at the heart of the islamist soldier? What does he think he will gain from killing Americans? Is there a fault in his brainwashing? How can we as Americans remove the fault?

Do not mistake Islamist Soldier for Islamic Extremist. Most of this anger and agression to the US is due to our foreign policy and our support for Isreal. While Isreal has a right, like any Country to live, they are not always the nice guy. They have committed crimes and before 911 - killed more American's then the Islamic Extremist. But you probably didn't know that. The only way peace can be achieved is through dialogue and working to help improve the lives of the people suffering in the middle east. Until then, they will continue their suicide attacks (and yes - for those extremists out there - it is suicide when you blow your @ss up wether you like to admit or not).

Being one who's educated himself and not let media dictate my knowledge . I can assure you it's not the 72 virgins, anyone who's read the Quran would tell you this, no where in there does it's say about getting 72 virgins . Islamic soldiers view america as the expantionist state that it is, this is a fact . All they see is that we who staunchely support Israel and all it's wrong doings and unethical foreign policy that has systematicaly lead to the killing of thousadn of muslims .

Another Point is that most of the dictatorships established in mid-east and africa are all due to military coup's funded by america/england, who do think put saddam in power in 72 ? how bout Al-Qadaffi in Libya ?and numurous other dictatorships that were for the while being helped america, economicaly and militarily . But many people living under these dictatorships have no way out the only way out are resistance groups like Al-queda which fought saddam in the 90's . This is only one factor .

Ultimately to remove the fault is to stop america from funding state terror that is being commited by Israel who is largest purveyor of violence and terror in that region if we stop the funding of weapons that used to murder thousands of civilians and illigally expell people from there own land, then we will keep fighting terrorism untill.

Good question, but to consider these factors is the same as sympathizing with the terrorists. This is the general consensus in the US, I believe, and it's certainly what is preached on right-wing media, and by US government officials. What Americans are supposed to believe is that all terrorists are "Islamic fascists" bent on spreading Islam throughout the world and destroying all infidel Western societies in the process. Terrorists become terrorists because they are brainwashed by an evil religion, or in the more liberal view, by a radical version of Islam. The motives of the Muslim terrorist have little or nothing to do with US foreign policy according to most Americans. The Muslim terrorists are just part of a fanatical reverse crusade to restore the caliphate of 1000 AD..

It's not the SOLDIERS , we have to worry about , it's the civilians
governments don't have to take the blame for what civilians do .

This question is like asking why Christians believe in Christ, God, Mary, & the Holy Spirit. Islamists extremists believe that we are infidels & it is in their beliefs that if they do their part to dispell the world of infidels, they will reach Mecca, where they will be greeted by several virgins etc... They believe all of this to the very core of their being, which is why it will be almost impossible to win this war. It's almost the same idea of the Japanese Kamakasi's in WWII: it is an honor to die while taking out the "infidels"

We can't, it didn't come from us so therefore it can't be 'removed' by us. We can say, "OK, let's start from the beggining. The slate is clean." It still wouldn't end.
