My husband and I split up 1 week ago. He wants to me agree that we split up last month. In our state you must be separated a year to get a divorce. What is he trying to get away with and why?

He might just want the divorce sooner. That or he has been seeing someone and doesn't want anyone to know that he was still married when he was doing this. Then there is it looks better if you wanted a month after the separation to see others then a week.

Well he obviously is trying to get away from you, and as quickly as possible.
Here's a far fetched possibility: He purchased a winning lottery ticket last month, and wants the divorce finalized before he claims the asset. He only has 1 year from the date of purchase to do that. Not so far fetched, is that he will receive an extraordinary sum of money within the year, ( bonus, stock option, etc) and doesnt want it in the community property.

He wants a divorce and he wants it fast. Maybe he doesn't want his g/f to find out that he's still been with you for the last month.

Get a lawyer and follow their advice. Don't expect this man to do what's right for you, he won't.

He just want to get it over fast , no harm , if you agree with him , as you also don't want to continue with him , better accept his little request and that is in your favor also .
