I've tried eBay, couldn't even get a thousand for it, so I took it down (appraised at $10K, paid $5K) - went into Birks, they scoffed, saying it was almost impossible to resell a diamond, it's just "one of those things" that doesn't make sense, they said.

There's got to be a way!

1. Stay away from the Pawn Shop
2. If at all possible, get a certified appraisal
3. DO NOT SELL to a diamond merchant, diamond vendor, diamond salesman. These are in a category which far exceeds used car salesmen.
4. Sell it to some other member of the public. Trying EBay may be an option, I do not know. But they take a cut, so you must have the correct price, don't do a give-away.
5. When you ship it to the buyer, you MUST do this by registered mail, insured to cover loss or theft.
6. Do not ship until you are absolutely sure the buyer's payment has cleared. In this instance, I would not accept credit card. I think Cashier's Check from a bank is best, but some financial expert may have a better idea.

Remember, there are all kinds of scam artists operating out there nowadays. They particularly like to rip off someone doing some transaction like this. That's why the foregoing precautions are necessary.

They also have no conscience whatsoever about doing this to someone who is having financial difficulties.

Be sure you do not lose the ring and that you uphold your part of the transaction. Interstate is covered by U.S. Laws and the FBI, etc

you could try selling it on your own by setting up a website through yahoo or windows live(msn) and just see if anyone is interested in it. if not keep trying other jewellery stores or if you have to try eBay again but mark the price up a bit so that you make what you need to make and then eBay will have there cut on top of what you needed. i hope that this helps you and good luck in trying to sell it. if you would like to send me a couple of pics if the ring i many be able to help you sell it to a Friend of mine who is planning to get engaged soon.

classified ad in the paper. the second a diamond goes out the door it loses 1/2 to 2/3 of it's value. that's just basic retail markup. so, if someone offers 2,500 probably should grab it. "it's just 'one of those things' that doesn't make sense..."

Try more jeweler stores, don't just stop at one store.
