Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Find AOL in the list, and completely remove it.

This will delete the program itself, you will be given the option during the setup if you want to delete all downloaded files with the installation, so I recommend you choose 'yes'.

However, this is really as close as it gets to completely removed and the directory will probably stay on your computer. You can delete this manually. BUT ONLY AFTER UNINSTALLING PROPERLY via the control panel, if any files or folders are left behind. Use a security program to shred them, thats a better option.

Removing aol files

Sadly, the only practical way I've ever found to _completely_
remove AOL from an operating system is to format the hard drive and
perform a clean installation. It takes a lot less time than
manually removing/replacing all of the Windows system files that AOL
replaces with their own versions and the hundreds of registry entries.

Start Menu--->Control Panel-->Add/Remove Program--->Aol Uninstall. After that you would have to look in your c drive/program files for a file called AOL or something like that and delete it. Then get a registry cleaner like CCleaner(free one that I use, just google it) and it will clean up all the unused file extensions and residue left bye the AOL program. But uninstallation is really all that is required to install a new ISP program.

Go to the Control Panel, and go to ADD/REMOVE programs. Use the REMOVE button on each of the AOL programs, one at a time. After restarting the computer, look for more AOL programs.

Don't forget, you can still get your AOL email at http://www.aol.com Some people don't get around to updating their address book.

Go into Control Panel and then click on "Add/Remove Programs". Then one by one highlight the AOL programs (there will be four or five) and delete them. You may have to restart several times. This should do it.
