manual automatic off road always changes gear and cant al;ways find the right gear but if your in manual u can choose your gears and will go alot faster

Anytime that you are going off road, you are placing alot of strength into a transmission, engine and the axles. A 4wd vehicle was designed to stand rough road conditions, along with providing some comfort for individuals that don't like to step out and turn the switch. Depending on the type of off road that you are referring to, it will depend the transmission. If you are going off road because you lived in a farm, rural area, non pavement road, steep hill, you are fine with the automatic... If you are going off road for fun and play, you must definitely needs a manual transmission

Manual - you can read the terrain with a manual but an automatic can only guess and will usually get it wrong (plus in doing so, it will damage the clutch/transmission). But then, most automatics will have a few gears you can choose manually.

I would say manual, because a manual transmission in the lower gears can keep you from going too fast without using your brakes.
