The highest suicide rates occur in doctors, policemen and policewomen and firemen and firewomen. The rates of divorce are the highest in these professions also. So those that take care of others, are not taking care of themselves...sad, really. There is a great deal of stress involved in all of these professions, and I'm sure that there is a correlation to that fact also. Have a good day.

I'm no professional, but I recall there being at least 12 suicides in the 4 years I was stationed at Camp Pendleton, primarily from the infantry battalions. I cant comment on the Dental profession, but what I've read is that they have the highest rate amongst medical professionals. But I have also read where they are only surpassed by chemists and pharmacists.

I have no idea why, but one time I heard that the profession with the highest suicide rate is dentists!

According to studies at the NCHS (National Center for Health Statics, no one profession has the highest suicide rate. It depends on many factors of each individual.

Dentists suffer from a relatively low status within the medical profession and have strained relationships with their clients -- nobody enjoys going to the dentist.

Air Traffic Controllers. Uh, no, I think they have the highest stress rates which lead to stress-induced illness and early death.
Probably psychiatrists, lol! Or angst-filled rock and roll stars!

I believe the answer is Police Officers. The constant exposure to the seemier side of life seems to be the cause and effect.
