Quite simply, NO

You must stay and finish the job. The free government of Iraq must be afforded the opportunity to be properly in place and properly with the power to work and protect itself. Our presence there is essential to the free government of Iraq to survive.

There is no quagmire. If you weren't sitting around believing everything you hear, you would know that. Have been to Iraq? Things aren't nearly as bad as the news makes them out to be, believe me as some one who has spent a multitude of time there. Have you even served your country in any way, besides criticizing its policies? I doubt it.

We have a chance to do something right on the first try. Gulf War I was about removing Saddam from Kuwait, not freeing Iraq. This time we have liberated a country and given an opportunity to millions. Just because there are people who oppose us, doesn't mean we should run. Obviously, you haven't spent much time doing any research and fact finding on your own and more time sucking down the Kool-Aid presented by organizations such as the leftist-ridden CNN.

We need to work harder at building their forces, police and military, while reducing the responsibilities of our own. That doesn't mean pull ours out, it means using them to properly combat an insurgency, not patrol street and protect police stations.

SHIRAZ, you are an idiot

There is no quagmire. The old regime is gone, the Iraqis voted for a new constitution and elected a government. The war was a success. The fighting now is mostly clean-up work and sectarian violence. In a country of 25 million, there are only a few tiny spots of trouble with a few thousand people. The media blows things out of proportion. Think for yourself.

One problem with asking the neocons is their lack of credibility. It wasn't that there was intelligent debate over the decision to go to war and one side won the decision after much hand-wringing and deep contemplation and things just happened to turn out poorly (who knew) - instead, the administration's neocons lied about the WMD evidence, had no intelligent plan for after the inevitable military victory (or were unwilling to put the money into Iraq to help win the peace) and failed to take seriously the unintended consequences - namely that the war on terror would suffer as a result (and by the way, does anyone dispute that the clear winner in this war is our buddy Iran?)

The NeoCons should humbly apologize and STFU at this point. Have some class.

First gulf war we pulled out when the mission was complete and abandoned the citizens of Iraq so they could be oppressed by Sadaam and his regime. Many Iraqis lost their lives. We cannot abandon the Iraqi citizens again! We must stay the course until order is restored. Even if that means we are there for the next 20 years.

Kick the damn media out. Tell them they will no longer be embedded with troops or under US protection. Then allow our generals to do what they are supposed to do without having to worry about whether the media thinks it is PC or not. War is not easy or pretty and people die, that is not right but it is reality. Remember, the news is like any other business, they only print what people want to buy, they no longer care about the truth.

"The course" is the solution. Continue supporting the democratic government in Iraq until they're able to defend themselves.

The U.S. hasn't abandoned the allies in Great Britain, or India, or other places simply because there are some terrorists running around.

Some people are able to comprehend the larger picture...some aren't able to look beyond their own nose.

Sitting around a campfire in isolation singing "Kum Ba Ya" is not an effective deterrent to terrorists. (Nor is drawing a caricature of GWB with a Pinocchio nose, for that matter.)

Because someone doesn't "like" a method or doesn't "feel" that something isn't working doesn't necessarily mean that it's inherently a failure.

I just wish Bush would define for us what 'total victory' actually is.
Depose Saddam ... check.
Install a democracy ... check.
Hold free elections ... check.
Draw up Iraqi Constitution ... check.
Declare victory and go home ... not yet. (?!?)

I think we're simply using Iraq as a possible staging ground for Iran. Not that we could ever admit that. But think about it; we have troops on Iran's eastern and western borders in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Iraq is only a 'quagmire' because people like you second guess everything the armed forces do.

Neo-con or not, there is little choice now but to stay until the Iraq government is stable and able to function on its own. The alternatives are even worse.

Yes there are many options. The one I would like to see is this:
Make sure they have no weapons of mass destruction. DONE
Remove Saddam's regime. DONE
Help rebuild their police and military to protect themselves without our help. If they don't give enough effort give them a deadline to be ready.
If the deadline is not met, start withdrawing our troops out.
Declare a victory, a real one, then bring our troops home.
It is that simple. If you leave out all the money we have spent already, alot that has been wasted. The lives of our military personnel must mean more to our leaders than the high almighty dollar!
At least we accomplished our goals in Iraq.
Some would call it cut and run.
I call it job well done as best as can be. it is up to the people of Iraq now if they want peace.
