I've recently started a new job working for the NHS.

The problem is: I don't actually do anything. I just sit here at my desk surfing the net all day. Now, here's the deal:

1) Me sitting here doing nothing and getting paid for it is draining money from our health service. However;

2) The more money the health service spends this year, the more money they GET next year. And;

3) Since the money given to the health service comes out of tax money, in a roundabout way, I'm paying myself.

Wow! If I showed my wife your question she'd go ballistic! She's stressed out like mad working in the NHS and gets paid peanuts in return. It seems you – and "Graytrees" – may be in a lucky backwater eddy. The picture you depict isn't typical for public sector employees....well, not in England, anyway!?

Don't worry, same for me. 'Cept I work for the State. And I DO want to do something. But they give me nothing but make-work. If they give you no work, what can you do? I've tried to find stuff, but where I work, nearly everything is sensitive material. I work in a fraud department. And I do think that they're wasting money on someone they don't need. A shrub could do this job! And the worst thing is, I'm bored. That may not seem like much, but when I get bored, I get destructive. Why do you think I'm always on here?

But don't feel guilty. It's not your fault they hired someone they didn't really need. If you're wanting a real job, without the guilt factor, go ahead and find one. It's always better to look for a job while you still have one. That way, you can still eat.

Sometimes with new positions they have trouble figuring out what to do with you but you may miss this time in the future when you are overloaded.

But if you feel bad morally, be a little patient but if you don't like it, try to get transferred to where you can feel useful.

Again for now a little patience.

You are probably not the only one that has a job like that. If you quit your job then someone else is going to be in that same position. What difference does it make. Allot of things are not fair in life.
