"Huh""Do Whut" This would be the average American's response on being asked what he/she thinks about a New Republic story. The New Republic has a small readership but it is composed of people who are likely to vote and are likely to be involved in politics. So to say that only a hundred thousand people read that article is true, but those hundred thousand have an influence over any random hundred thousand readers of People.
Next said. I didn't read it and I can't comment on it. I looked on the New Repugnant (I don't have a real high opinion of them either) and found one article about British Muslims "The challenge of Muslim assimilation in Britain. Test Match by Alex Massie " but you can't read it unless you subscribe. So screw that.
I have always felt that the benefits of living in a modern western democracy, freedom, safety, 500 channels of TV, the opportunity to vote, due process of law, football on TV. (different games in the UK and the US but you know what I mean) would eventually become evident to our new friends from the mid east and they will settle down. I think I may have been too optimistic.
Something else is going on here and I don't have time to analysis it today.
Short story. No, I would not worry about the New Repugnant too much. People on the Right here in America feel that the UK is a loyal ally and people on the left are only hoping you will give Blair the boot soon as we will do to Bush and we can find some way out of this mess we seem too have gotten ourselves into.

What nonesense! Your attack are completely misdirected! I wasn't aware that the U.S. started "this sh it". Are you high on drugs? This was began a long time ago, before Bush was President. How soon do we forget the 1st attack on the World Trade Center during Clinton's administration? How about the attack on the Cole, and other attacks on U.S. interests by Muslim terrorists during Clinton administration? Some may even argue that this began back when Iranians stormed the U.S. embassy in the late 70's, and held Americans hostage for over a year.

Your assertion that the U.S. started this is outrageous and completely false.

Unfortunately, any country that has a substantial Muslim community is a hotbed of potential problems, including in the U.S. The U.K. has had a substantial influx of Muslim immigrants, many of which are religious, and subscribe to extremist point of view.

While not all Muslims are terrorists, the vast majority of terrorists are Muslims. Islamofascism, headed by Iran, must be dealt with before it becomes too late.

That is not what the USA thinks. It is what a couple of people with a lot of money and a printing machine think.

On the opposit side of the fence, it would be reasonable to assume that Islamic extremeists are using the UK as a base of opperations. Logisticly and taticaly it makes sence. The UK is the USA's strongest ally, and striking the UK is almost as good as attacking the US, and from the UK, it is not hard to make your way over to the US.

We need to keep in mind that the UK did just prevent terrorists from blowing up a few planes, so I think we owe them one.

There is alot of terrorism going on in the UK. It has been for a long time. I myself still think that the US needs to focus on what is going on in America and not what is going on across the ocean. I think it is just Bush he is not happy unless he can alienate everyone he started with Canada so why not continue with the UK. No one is safe when Bush is at the helm. I myself as an American do not feel the UK is a threat. Nor do I think they have more Islamic extremist then we do. To some Americans everyone is a terrorist. Wake up Bush and take care of your own country. Clean your own house before you start pointing fingers at others.

Not all Americans think the exact way that one American paper thinks. Most papers are extremely biased. I think the UK is wonderful but that doesnt mean that I think its completely safe. If you think you arent breeding terrorists unknowingly under your nose then you are very naive.
Don't assume that all Americans agree with the government because I can say this...most of us DONT agree with our government. Asking a few people on Yahoo Answers what their thoughts are won't give you a very good cross section of the American people.
I personally think the American government has failed our country many times in the past few years.
Look at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina....

Not what we think. I would pick up a real magazine, Time, Newsweek, the Economist, and not some radical trash like the New Republic.

No one I know has ever said the UK was a threat--actually, it has always been the complete opposite.

I am English, and I am not a fair weather friend at all. I am grateful for the help in ensuring that I didn't grow up speaking German, and I would always support America.

The problem is that we are too politically correct; too accommodating to other cultures. We are being overrun by Asians, etc., and we don't have a way out. Our police are catching extremists, but how do you catch all of the murdering, crazy b******s?

I am not sure what s**t you refer to, though. Iraq? Kuwait? Did we start that? I am not saying that they didn't need sorting, but I don't think that we led the way there, did we?

You'll have to ask Blair. No wait, ask Bush because he does all of Blair's thinking for him. Our government has adopted a "Your either with us, or against us," mentality. Even if US citizens speak out against the war, we are "un-American." So if there's anyone in your Parliament that has spoken against us, I'm sure their names were dragged through the mud by our government.
I've never heard of these claims that you are talking about, but I assure you, if they are true, it is only a few people in the Bush administration that is saying it. I appreciate any help this country gets because we need a lot of it right now.

I don't read 'New Republic,' but I know what I see on the news.

First, let it be clearly understood that I, and most of my friends, do, and will continue to stand behind the U.K. as one of our closest allies.

That being said, England is now in a very bad position. Geographically, it's much closer to muslim countries, making it easier to infiltrate. That's why terrorists very recently tried to attack U.S.-bound planes departing from England. Terrorists will use any resource they can find to attack its enemies.

The U.K. may be becoming a "hornets nest of Islamic extremism," but certainly not by choice! We know the score. England' civilized culture and peacable treatment of its neighbors is being taken advantage of, just as it is in America by our neighbors to the south.

It sounds like the "New Republic' magazine is, itself, an extremist publication. Please don't take what's written in its pages as representative of the much broader view shared by most Americans.

That England is being victimized by terrorists doesn't make us enemies. We'll stand by the U.K. in defending itself in any way we can if our assistance is requested.
