When I inserted a new copy of my key into the ignition and turned it on, a "Pass Key" light started flashing and the car shutt off after a few seconds. Is this some kind of security feature? If so, how can I make satisfactory copies of my key? or override the security feature?

You need to learn the new key before it will work correctly.

Take a known good key that is already programed and insert it in the switch. Turn key on, then off and remove. Insert the new key and do the same. IMPORTANT>>>The last 2 steps need to be done within 5 secs. Wait 30 secs and attempt to start with the new key.

Hi There,

Pass Key is a security feature that is built into the ignition system of your vehicle. There is a microchip in your key that the ignition in your car sends a random code to when you shut off the engine. When you go to start the engine with the key the code that has been placed on the chip in the key must match the code that the ignition system sent out. The ignition system is capable of remembering more than one code thus multiple keys are able to be used.

What's happening is the key you had made doesn't have a code or chip in it. It has to be set up at the Dealer. Did you go to the dealer for it? If not you will need to go to a GM dealer for a key. It's a little more money but you save on insurance premiums in the long run. Insurance companys usually offer a discount if your vehicle has this feature built in.

Hope this helps. Cheers.

You didn't state where your new keys came from. If you got them from some place other than the dealer I would suggest you take your master code with you to the dealer and have some more keys made.
