Some of the advise is prudent and well meaning, and I tend to agree with you not taking any chances with it. But lets see if we can narrow down what is happening to you.
Any number of things could be the result in a swollen, painfull foot. A bite or something stuck in your foot could case the inflammation.
But as you haven't said anything about stepping on/in to anything or a spot that is clearly where something went into the foot, I have to take what you did say... You work in a bar, and you walk a lot I bet... so right off my head it could be Plantar Fasciitis.
The plantar fascia is a fibrous sheath that runs most of the length of the sole of the foot. During walking and running, as you 'toe-off', the plantar fascia becomes taut and helps the foot act as a lever to push off with force. Plantar fasciitis refers to inflammation of the plantar fascia, usually at the point where it attaches to the bone.
Pain is common over the inside of the heel and usually radiates down the inside of the sole of the foot. The pain usually occurs with activity and is also typically present in the morning when taking the first steps of the day.
In most sporting individuals the cause is overuse and the remedy is simply to allow adequate rest, which will allow the affected tissues time to heal. For other cases, there are a number of treatment options.
Read the article below for more information it.

Hope that gives you some help and I do think that whether it is or isn't Plantar Fasciitis, you should think about visiting your family doctor.

I don't usually tell people to go to the doctor straight away but what you're describing sounds like an infection (the lump). Was the lump reddish? Was there pus?
Do you have a dog that chews on your shoes or slippers? HIs saliva may have gotten into a small cut and infected the foot. Could also be an insect bite that got infected. Have it checked out because if the infection spreads to bone then it can get pretty complicated...
One of my students had something similar and thought it would go away but when it didn't I took him to the ER and the doc said if we had waited longer, it would have been really bad.
Or it could just go away on its own if you pack some ice on it...
No way for anyone here to say for sure so go get that checked.

Hi, i would go to the doctors or up to accident and emergency as if the small lump was a cut or something in your foot, it could be infected. I have had a sore swollen foot for ages now and there is nothing that will shift it, its at my toe joint where it is painfull and my foot is constanlty swollen. I would get up to the hospital as soon as possible, then you will find out what it is.

If you had a lump first then you should see a doctor in case you have an infection. In the meantime keep your foot up on a stool or something when you sit down.

Could be a corn, or an infection. Either way it is best to go and see your doctor as soon as possible. In the mean time you need to R.I.C.E. your foot. Rest Ice Compression Elevation. But get your butt to the doctor as soon as possible. If it is an infection you do not need to end up in the hospital, or worse, having it cut off because you neglected to go to the doctor.

It probably would be best if you got it checked out. If you find it difficult to see a Dr then pop into your local NHS drop-in centre, I've always found them really helpful. It sounds to me you may have had something bite you or maybe even a small glass slither.
By they way - we could be sisters! Look at my picture!!

See a doctor but till than keep it in a bucket of ice with salt, the salt will melt the ice and at the same will stop the swelling of the foot.
SORRY ABOUT SPELLING
