It's only a good thing if it ONLY records speed and not where you're going and when... That goes too far...

Speeding is only part the story. Sometimes acceleration will get you out of a jam, but of course split-second decisions don't always make good sense after the fact.
That information will be stored in the computer assuming your vehicle is totaled. If you are obeying the law, you have no worries. But honestly, how many of us do the speed limit, when often the posted speed limit is well below what is practical? If someone negligently causes harm or the destruction of property by willfully throwing caution to the wind, then some means of proof must exsist to prosecute. To what extent is up to our courts to decide.
In over 25 years of driving I have had a few accidents, and only one could be partially attributed to me. (Bad split second decision).
Is "Big Brother" watching? Well, yes. Knowing that- one should consider their actions before doing something stupid.

I hate this new development. Although the only thing that I am encouraged about is that auto makers have to disclose to you if your new car has this feature. Many auto makers have been fighting back saying that this information is in the owner's manual and thus has been disclosed.
However, many people don't read the manuals or if they purchase the car used, they might not get the orginal owner's manual.
"They" say it's for helping in auto accidents, but it's only a matter of time before "big brother" will be tracking your driving habits.
It's bad enough tthat Oregon is trying to make all OR cars have a transponder that reports how many miles one drives in OR and having that tied to a "user" tax.
Just another libery being attacked.

Driving a car has never been a right, always a licensed privilege, and you have to agree to several things when you apply for a license.
The only people who will be hurt by a "black box" device are those whose actions caused an accident.
But the boxes won't show who lied on a red/green light argument.

they are already in quite some automobiles, a minimum of the following in the U. Wait until your insurance is canceled and you wonder why, then come to find out that the car has been phoning home to base station and then forwarding your speed info to police/insurance/parent etc... as you are halling down the interstate at a higher rate of speed than is wise, not to mention that if you swerve to avoid traffic at this high rate of speed and slosh your Mercury sensor it will also warn of possible Road Rage situation. All coming soon to a dealer near you!
