What is more important Iraq or New Orleans? I believe the US should be first.

That is, after all, what the National Guard is for - helping in times of national disaster. If it wasn't for the Iraq War, things might be very different in New Orleans today.

In early 2001, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a report stating that a hurricane striking New Orleans was one of the three most likely disasters in the U.S., including a terrorist attack on New York City. But by 2003 the federal funding for the flood control project essentially dried up as it was drained into the Iraq war. In 2004, the Bush administration cut funding requested by the New Orleans district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for holding back the waters of Lake Pontchartrain by more than 80 percent.

Which caused more death and destruction? The hurricane, or the breached levees? Bush and his cronies are not interested in helping America.

No Iraq is more important. New Orleans will just flood again and we will have waisted Millions of dollars on a town that is worthless. Let em move to a safe place and we can just turn New Orleans into a big swimming pool. Meanwhile in Iraq we are stopping them from trying to take over other countries with there terroristic ways.

That is not the true job of the military though. If you would have said solidifying the border or some military/guard type duty, I might have agreed with you.

However, I do believe a lot of the reconstruction work is/has been done by the military corps of engineers.

IMHO the soldiers in Iraq need to stay to complete the job. That job being to buy the new Iraqi government the time to set up and become mostly functional. Their future as a free nation depends on it. Much the same as when we stayed after in Germany post WWII to help get that government set up.

To the comment that says ppl are just b!t$%ing.. okay.. well wouldn't you if your house was swallowed by floods and your family was scattered and your govt.. not nobody! cared about your needs.. yet you pay taxes to that same government?

I think the troops shouldn't be in Iraq.. it's not our place to try to rebuild them.. does Bush really think that's possible.. I hope the next president in office pulls the troops out.. and works on America. The United States has fallen face first .. and last served.

It's sad to think all these men and women could be making a change in the US ... Could you imagine how many homes could have been saved .. how many lives could have been spared.. if not even half of the 130,000 soldiers were at the rescue.. the prevention of Katrina..

You don't see any other country rushing to the aid of America.. yet you see our troops in every other country serving their needs. If it's not a Tsunami, a train wreck, or Iraq.. it's something else our country is doing to help aide.. but not once have you seen another country flood us with Goodwill or aide.

It's something to ponder.. and I know ppl will hate my opinion.. it's just sad that we are in crisis too.. and ppl in our own state are blind sighted.

And to add insult to injury.. After 9/11.. how many countries were in allegiance with us going to war.. but you don't see their men and women serving in it. And how many of those countries came to our rescue when we were attacked.. ZERO.

Iraq is a Bush War. We should have never gone in there to start with. Now that we are there we need about 500,000 troops to get the place under control.
People in New Orleans should take more responsibility for their own circumstances. Seems like everyone is waiting for “the government” to do something.

And put all those civilians out of work ?
How very Liberal of you , you'll put thousands of construction workers out of work, just to bring the troops home and have them build .
Unskilled construction labor at MILITARY PAY Vs Skilled labor at UNION RATE !

Typical LIBERAL , never , ever think things thru , just go with what feels good .

No. I think our troops are right where they need to be. I think that the people of new orleans should be at least trying to help themselves instead of just bitching that the govt. isn't helping enough. what are they doing for themselves?????

You just don't understand do you. It doesn't make George W. Bush look good if he doesn't destroy it first. It obviously makes much more sense to ruin something and then rebuild it. Geeze, some people.
