To make your computer faster you can anyone or all of the followings..
1. You can change processor to a higher speed processor. ( So you have buy a new processor and you can either throughout or sell your old processor.
2. You can increase your RAM size. in mother board there will be 2 to 3 slots for RAM, so you can put ur new RAM in another free slot.
3. if don't want spend money and still want increase the speed, you have to use the disk defragmenter tool which you can find in your OS.
4. You can buy a higer speed hard disk.
5. you can use some tools to clean your registry, unwanted files, etc. There are lot free or trial tools for cleanup.
And in these the best ways are 1 & 2.
And 3 & 5 are good.

ASH M 79 has some very good points. Most important is reduce the number of items in your startup (msconfig)
If your computer is new, or if you never cleaned up msconfig / startup most likely most if not all items are checked to start up at system boot.
This is done by the mfg. of the computer because they do not know where or how the computer is going to be used when the make it. It is up to the owner to customize the start up to their individual needs. If your computer is still in warranty, call the tech help for assistance in configuring your start up.

On Internet Explorer click Tools--> Internet Options You should see on the General tab. Delete cookies, temporary files and delete history click all of those. You should also defrag your system. Start-->Accessories-->system tools--Defragment.
There are also programs like Adaware and Spybot that could get rid of malicious Adware and Spyware that downloads on your computer through popups or undesired cookies like Hi girl17 everytime you go to that site it tracks where you go on the Internet. Download the links and do some scans you should be fine.

Make sure there is enough space on your drive that has the swap file, usually drive C. You always need at least 500mb free on that drive. That should help.
If you have at least 500mb free, consider getting more memory. You need at least 256mb to have a good performance.
