It's not a get rich quick job by any means. The "average" agent only brings home $20,000 after taxes and expenses! That is a deceiving number because most agents only dabble and don't take the profession seriously. Especially if sales don't just fall into their laps. In tougher markets when that doesn't happen you get an astronomical turn over rate.
Word of advice, don't quit your day job. Or at least plan on some other form of income before jumping in. You should also have at least some savings to fall back on. The start up costs can be overwhelming to some. You are going to have a lot going out initially and on a recurring basis and getting those first sales are tough if you don't have any skills or a sphere of influence to market to (friends & family).
I personally didn't have a large sphere that was reliable so I decide to invest myself in several flips and became my own customer. Actually, I have made more money with my own property than selling and listing for others. Probably 60-40 split between personal and other people's property and personally I like it that way.
