I just think that, for example, a person who turned up on a 'reality' TV show being called a celebrity sort of nullifies the word. It comes from 'Celebrate' right? Why would anyone celebrate the fact that someone else, usually boring and narcasistic, has appeared on a tv show without any intelectual merit whatsoever?

You ask the coolest questions.....

I wholeheartedly agree.....even worse are the people who become "celebrities" by association.....Kevin Federline qualifies because he knocked up Britney?

Just be patient....the reality show thing will slowly disappear, just like Jerry Springer and his ilk, prime-time game shows, and hopefully, one day, "professional" wrestling.

Incidentally, if you're going to make a stronger point, try the spell check. Some of the most intelligent people I know can't spell worth a damn, but if you're going to harp about the "intellectual merit" of reality show contestants......you should probably spell "intellectual" correctly.....

Great questions.....keep 'em coming!

Music to my ears. I'm fed up with so-called celebrities who are known for little more than appearing on some lame TV programme, or, worse still, for having had sex with some other talentless no-name. Most people don't know the names of scientists or philosophers who have made historic contributions to humanity, but they know where some airheaded bimbo bought her latest bikini. Bluuurrghhh!!!
