The truck has a 5.7 350. It fires and starts for about one full second and shuts off. Even if I pump the gas it just coughs. After it dries up outside the truck starts fine. It runs great after started. The only problem is getting it running. I've changed the distributer cap, rotor button, plugs, and wires. What could be the problem?

Note: I have already changed the fuel filter, it's not water in the fuel. Can this be the ignition coil?

You might have a crack distributor that is letting moisture in that is making it not firing right... but wait you did change it out right did you not? Moisture can still be getting in it some how so you may want to use some kind of sealant.

Unfortunately it still could be the distributor cap. I worked for many years in a auto repair shop. You would be amazed at how many distributors brand new come in with a crack already or crack as they are replacing them. Even the thinnest crack that you cannot see can allow enough moisture to get into your engine to cause it problems. Try changing your distibutor cap again since it is cheaper than engine repair and see if ti gets better. The only otherproblem it might be is a seal that is wearing out these are hard to find. Best thing is to find a friend who mechanics well and let him tinker with it a little at a time. He will find it but it won't cost a fortune. If you take it to a shop they will find it too but they will charge for every hour that goes by while looking for it.

Moisture is still getting in somehow despite all the things you have changed. Get a spray can of silicone sealer or some other moisture barrier spray and spray ALL of the wiring in the engine compartment. Ask at the auto parts store for a recommendation on which product you should try, they are generally very helpful. Good luck!

Your battery cables are corroded. Take them both off, use a battery post cleaner on the battery, scrap the inside of both cables with a knife, replace the cable-ends to the battery, cover the tops with dialectic grease to prevent condensation from returning to the connections.
