that we saved their a.s.s in WW2, do these Americans forget that the French helped us if not saved our a.s.s from the English during the Revolutionary war? Or is this a yet another case of Ignorant Americanism?

Yeah, Americans usually only see what they want to see. They want to complain about the times that they help somebody but don't want to recognize the help that they receive. It's sad really. America is supposed to be such a great country but it's full of morons.

1) It is fun to say "Cheese eating Surrender monkey.
2) We can pick on the French- It would not be fair to pick on some little Absurdistan where nobody can read and people don't even have clean water. France is a big rich country, they can take it.
You know I was just going to be funny and leave it at that but reading these other answers.
Seeing that our involvement in Iraq has achieved nothing but to plunge that country into civil war and anger the Radical Islamisist movement even further. One of their big resentments is the presence of US bases in Saudi Arabia. So now we have America running over another Muslim country. Quel bon idee the French said. Remember the French were planing to help if we could only prove something besides a bee in Cheney's bonnet about the alleged weapons of mass destruction. They were cautious, because they didn't believe it would be a "cakewalk" They and the Russians and the rest of the EU was not going to follow our Chicken Hawk Commander in Chief anywhere.
You only have to read the newspapers to see who's right.
I know what you are going to say "Well if you don't like it in Omaha, move to Paris." What a threat. Americans are the only people in the world who don't see the humor in that sentence.
You "cannot frighten me by exclaiming, “My country, right or wrong.” In one sense I say so too. My country; and my country is the great American Republic. My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; and if wrong, to be set right."
Senator CARL SCHURZ, remarks in the Senate, February 29, 1872

Ignorance. That's all. We've all helped each other at one time or another. Once again, "You're either with us, or against us." And I still call them "french fries."

On the other hand, the French people have not been too friendly with the Americans. My father was in France during the '60s as a part of his Air Force tour, and he said it was awful. The people were rude, the country was not as beautiful as they always say, and the girls were ugly. So I can only go on what he told me.

Obviously french. Do you realize that your government ran to England in WWII and with all that was going on we did save your a**es. You helped during the Revolutionary war. But we also saved your behinds in WWI. We spent billions to help you rebuild your country twice. The money is still not repaid. When we ask you for help you turn us down and then have the nerve to criticize us. You know who is ignorant you are. The french are just a bunch of arrogant self-important SOB's.

Great question and it did expose one big problem here in the US.

Although Americans are not afraid of apologizing when wrong or at fault, looks like that when it comes to certain political campaigns we are willing to live and die by whatever our political parties tell us.

You have a very valid point in asking such a question, from those responses, I realized how ignorant and dumb people still are to argue with who saved whose A...s? Wake up America, We are all sons and daughters of the world, no one of you debating here has any connection to natives of this land. We are all a part of this world, so stop acting as if God created you here from the first place and made you a better race than the rest of the world. Remember what Hitler used to claim??????

hey. heres a quick break down of the revolutionary war: the americans were just a pawn in a greater war between the french and brittish. the only reason the french helped was because they knew theyd get something out of it themselves (all of canada.) dont act like the french did it for us. if they had nothing to gain, they surely wouldnt have helped the 13 tiny colonies... anyone knows that.

in ww2 the americans helped because they knew hitler needed to be stopped and the brits (and certainly the french) werent getting the job done. the americans and russians saved the world from a bad man. end of story.

now go push your propoganda on some website for arrogant frenchies where the big bad ungreatful americans cant argue back. might work better for you.

LMAO - Um, Frogs didn't show up until one of the very last battles and all they did then was block the sea ports. And it wasn't just WWII. It was WWI as well. Look, most American's simply pick on the French because it is so easy. Not our fault France hasn't one won a war since Napoleon in Portugal.

They save our *** once and we've been saving theirs ever since. The reason Americans criticize the French is because of their wishy washy stance on everything. They are rude to Americans who visit their country and they have a very anti American sentiment there. They are considered sissies and cowards by the majority of the most powerful countries in the world. It's not a matter of "Ignorant Americanism" but with that statement, I think you answered your own question.

The French still owed us the respect of joining us in our efforts in Iraq, despite the past record of "saves" on both sides..your either an ally or not & if not then dont expect open arms or praise or thanks for the past 'save' efforts..This is not a game or who is who in the wartime situation..(on your level now)..Besides which came first..the revolutionary war or WW2?

what's your obsession with the French questions? Ok...here is a Joke I got in the email...

Ted Nugent was asked by some French reporter about deer hunting and what he though was the last thing in the deers mind before Ted shot them...was it "are you my friend" or "where you the one that killed my brother"?

Ted replied "Deer are not capable of that complex thinking. They think of simple things like, what can I eat now, who am I gonna have sex with next, where can I run away to get away very quickly from this place. Yes, they are very much like the French".

back then they did it for other reasons, but not to help us gain a country. they did it because they wanted a piece of the pie(the united states). If you remember the Louisiana purchase?? Napoleon sold it to us for 5 million. When we went in WW2, we didnt get crap from france except places to land and fuel our aircraft, and places to rest. France is a nice country, and i wont bad mouth them, but i wish they would do a little more than talk when it come to fighting the terrorist.
