A computer program that is designed to replicate itself by copying itself into the other programs stored in a computer. It may be benign or have a negative effect, such as causing a program to operate incorrectly or corrupting a computer's memory.

virus

Software used to infect a computer. After the virus code is written, it is buried within an existing program. Once that program is executed, the virus code is activated and attaches copies of itself to other programs in the system. Infected programs copy the virus to other programs.

The effect of the virus may be a simple prank that pops up a message on screen out of the blue, or it may destroy programs and data right away or on a certain date. It can lay dormant and do its damage once a year. For example, the Michelangelo virus contaminates the machine on Michelangelo's birthday.

Viruses Must Be Run to Do Damage
A virus is not inserted into data. It is a self-contained program or code that attaches itself to an existing application in a manner that causes it to be executed when the application is run. Macro viruses, although hidden within documents (data), are similar. It is in the execution of the macro that the damage is done.

E-Mail Attachments Are Suspect

File attachments in e-mail messages are a common way of infecting a computer, providing the user clicks on the attachment. If the attachment is an executable file, it can do anything when run. Examples of executables are files with extensions such as .BAT, .COM, .EXE, .SCR, and .SHS (see dangerous extensions and double extension).

Viruses Are Relatively Recent

The term virus was coined in the early 1980s, supposedly after a graduate student presented the concept of a program that could "infect" other programs. Since then, more than 80,000 viruses have been defined. However, 99% of the infections are from only a few hundred variants found "in the wild."

Since 1993, the WildList Organization has been keeping track of virus attacks around the world. For more information, visit www.wildlist.org. For a sampling of different virus infections, see virus examples. See in the wild, quarantine, disinfect, macro virus, e-mail virus, behavior blocking, polymorphic virus, stealth virus, worm, boot virus, vandal, virus hoaxes and crypto rage.

Be Careful Out There!
If you use the Internet for any purpose, be sure you have an antivirus program running at all times (see antivirus program).

A virus is a dependent (program or organism ) that needs a host to survive that host is (files of different kinds or human ) .

First computer virus is a very small software , it attatches itself to a game , a program or an email and that attaches situation is called infection .so when you open or install or copy or download the infected game or program or email , then you have installed the virus system to your PC . Now the virus system contaminates your whole system by regenerating himself suddenly your free space is gone , next step is to detonate itself with your files ...... Some viruses are weak or just detonates your DOC files or Zip files ... some are not .... destroys your exe files which is 98% of your system then suddenly you find every thing is gone including your windows , some are really brutal that writes to sector 0 on your harddisk which makes the harddisk inaccessible or writes to your Bios which makes your computer inaccessible !!

Second human virus , quite the same here it infectes food , air , plants . when you contact these infected organisms from air , food or plants you got infected . now the virus installs itself into you and start to reproduct itself into you . Next the virus consume some certain kinds of body fluids that depend on the virus .some viruses are weak it just affects your smelling ability or maybe cause you a stomachache ! . some are not it cause great consequences makes the body totally weak , other types are brutal it consume the whole body and makes the body no longer functioning ......

a virus is so file that makes your pc slow now if you have a virus on your pc and your anti virus cant remove it your need to do this

You will need alot of tools for this project. The tools you need are as follows. Acouple of screwdrivers a crowbar, a tire iron, and my favorite a hammer. First thing you must do is turn off the power to your pc and move it out to the center of the room. The second thing you will need to do is take your tire iron and screwdrivers and pry open the tower. Dont be gentle when doing this, the computer wont die that easy. After that is done you will need to take your screw driver and hammer and start pounding new codes on your hard drive. dont be gentle when doing this, nothing will go wrong when doing this process. After that is done take your hammer and gently tap your mother board to make sure it is in working order. After that is done you need to check your video and sound cards. Take your tire iron and hammer and hit them with mild force. After that is done put your tower back together by pounding the cover back on with your hammer with alot of force. There you go your done and you have the codes for your problem on your hard drive. Problem solved have fun.

In computer security, a computer virus is a self-replicating computer program that spreads by inserting copies of itself into other executable code or documents. A computer virus behaves in a way similar to a biological virus, which spreads by inserting itself into living cells. Extending the analogy, the insertion of a virus into the program is termed as an "infection", and the infected file, or executable code that is not part of a file, is called a "host". Viruses are one of the several types of malicious software or malware. In common parlance, the term virus is often extended to refer to worms, trojan horses and other sorts of malware; viruses in the narrow sense of the word are less common than they used to be, compared to other forms of malware.

A virus is a FREE and un-expected "enhancement" for the Microsoft Operating Systems.

There are 150,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions. The MineSweeper and Solitaire Consultants all stay up late at Redmond, working on them, and creating new patches for "patch it up Tuesday".

To avoid complete shutdown of all of the Microsoft Web presence servers, Microsoft switched all 45,000 servers over to GNU/Linux, in 2005! You can try this, in a LiveCDrom, of http://pclinuxos.com

Now, running upto 50X faster, the 45,000 Linux servers and computers on Microsoft.com, Hotmail.com, MSN.com, and the entire Redmond Campus, firewalls, and labs are not crashing!

Microsoft is a major beta tester of Linux. The fact that one Linux server or desktop replaces 8 Microsoft systems was not lost on the bean counters in accounting, who noticed the huge manpower re-direction from 'patch maintenance' to system development, by 3,600 of the 4,000 development team members, and the decision to not hire the other 5,000 'support' personnel.

Linux is virus proof, cracker free! Comes with 1,900 FREE games, programs and applications, on that one LiveCDrom!
