That doesn't seem right at all, are you sure you haven't done other things with your account that aren't allowed (not that I can think what they might be). Going overdrawn once shouldn't mean an account being closed.

You need to urgently contact your branch and speak to someone senior to find out what it happening. I imagine that banks can close accounts at their discretion (as the Ombudsman said) but they need to give you a valid reason - are you 100% sure they haven't done so?

Good luck - and once this is sorted don't bank with them again.

That doesn't seem right? How quickly did you rectify the fact you were overdrawn? Did you pay the bank charge?
HSBC are very good at handing charges out and not the best bank. Put it in writing that you want a reason.
Then the best thing you can do is find another bank xx

It doesn't suprise me that they won't tell you but you need to know if you are going to get an account elsewhere what the issues were.

I'd get in touch with experian or equifax to ask for a copy of your credit file to see what might be causing the concern (The £2 option) . You may find that an error on your file is to blame and can then rectify it and go back to the HSBC for an apology,.

Go and empty your account, tell them to f*ck off and open an account at another bank. When you start investing and getting mortgages etc, it will be the new bank who gets your business. The best revenge is to be successful financially with a new bank.

Cos you went overdrawn - that's why. If you read the small print in the contract, it'll tell you the same reason.

Banks don't like you being overdrawn especially as you've only had the account a short while. Maybe after a year but not 4 months. They obviously think that you are not a respectable customer for this account.

Very strange, Seems mighty peculiar as they allow my son to constantly overdraw and just love to send him huge bills for the charges, so I would not have thought they would close your account for for one overdraft occurrence, I would have thought it would have to be something serious to do this i.e. fraud or similar, keep on asking them and assure them you do know of any reason why they would do this, you never know it might be a mistake.

sounds strange, i go overdrawn all the time, they just charge me money.

As they wont give a reason it sounds like they have reason to be suspicious of you, have you ever been convicted of fraud?

they may be gettin you confused with someone else, try to seewttalk them into telling you why

banks are in business to make money , If it cost them more money to keep your account open then the amount of money you have in the account, they will close it. Heres the Good news, banks and bankers are a dime a dozon, shop around for a better bank to do business with, dont feel bad about it.
