2500 to 3000 minimum.
Your wife will probably have to work also..list of expenses..approx.
750-1000 rent or mortgage
230 a month or more plus 120 a month for auto insurance
150 at least a month for electric,heat
80 a month at least for a telephone
300 or more for food at least probably more for diapers
clothing ,gas for car 80 to 100 at least
incidentals in household such as toilet paper, toothepaste, etc.
When you first move in you have to pay your 1st month rent up front usually as security...so the first month is double and they hold that money as security and sometimes you don't get it back.
You will need furniture, kitchen table, chairs, pots and pans, can openers, toasters, most apartments are furnished with stove, and fridge.
Some places usually charge a water fee also..40 to 50 a month.
Gas is higher in winter sometimes like 300 to 400 a month depending on where you live.
You have to include medical insurance also..200 or more a month.
Good luck ! :)
If you are lucky to have anything left over, and are fortunate enough to have a tv ,you will also have to pay cable bills approx 80 a month .
Entertainment expenses vary depending on your lifestyle..and also if you drink alchohol and smoke ciggarettes add that into your expenses too.
Don't forget about bedroom furniture and bathroom towls and curtains for your house or apartment.

It is very difficult to answer this question, as it depends on what part of the USA you are talking about and what you believe are necessities. Of course we all know the necessities are food, clothing, and shelter, but some people think that means Lobster, Prada, and a 5 bedroom home with 4 bathrooms and a maid; where other people think that means Raman Noodles, hand-me-downs, and a room with running water out of the faucet instead of the ceiling. We all have different needs. The big thing that will decide how much you will need to live though, is where you are going to live. If you live in New York City, you are going to need much more money than if you move to some small town in Iowa. (Here is a link about Iowa by the way http://www.iowa.gov/state/main/index.html
it is a beautiful state.)

It really depends on the State in the US. Housing costs are drastically different. Costs are so different, so pick wich state and tell them if you need day care and what you need. How much you are driving. It all depends on the state. Some are inexpensive and some are horriblely expensive. It depends if you have money or need a job. Ideally you want to find a place you can get a job that the cost of living is not too high because most people do not have a chunk of money to live in the cheapest place where there might be no jobs.

This truly depends on what area of the country you plan to live because the cost of living varies so much. The west and east coasts tends to be more expensive for housing, while the midwest tends to be a bit more affordable. Large cities you should expect to pay more for housing than smaller cities or small towns. The prices of food are pretty much the same everywhere except restaurants. You can spend as much or as little at restaurants all over the country depending on your budget.
If you could give us an idea of where in the country you plan on staying, perhaps someone in that area might be able to give you a more accurate estimate.

In California the cost of living is very high. In West Virginia it's very low. I'm not sur I would want to live in either place. The best thing to do is to find out where you want to go and look for the city's web page. They might have a cost of living analysis for people looking to move there. Also look at the surrounding cities. There is usually much better, safer, cleaner communities to live in in the suburbs. The schools have web paes also. If you don't find anything there then look for the area chamber of commerce pages.
Good Luck.

Depends on the city, whether you will need a car etc etc.
Look if you thought about it you wouldn't have children as you would say you couldn't afford them.
This is the same, if you want to move to USA to study or work legally go for it, you will make ends meet somehow. Afterall there are many poor americans not earning what the people below say you need to live.

How rough do you want to live? On a level of reasonable comfort one needs at least two thousand five hundred a month and truthfully three to five thousand is best for any degree of comfort. It can also vary quite a bit state by state city by city. Good Luck.

depends on where you are. the north is more expensive. it also depends on whether you qualify for financial aid. rent assistance, food stamps....ect...it's not cheap and they say you need to be able to pay your rent with one weeks paycheck.....so if your rent is $700 then in one week you need to make $700.

Where I live, $50,000 a year is the poverty line. I say you should each work, and each make at least $100,000 each, otherwise, life will suck and get you down, and you will beat your wife and kick the dog, and your children will grow up to become a burden on society.
