Or would the glue interfer with the glue already on the rhinestone (ready for the hot iron)

I am not sure exactly what you are asking. Do the rhinestones have a glue backing on them?? are they supposed to be ironed on?? If that is the case then you need to follow the instructions and do what it says. If the stones do not have this then yes you could use hot glue but it would be atempoprary fix not a long lasting one.

If you pick the right glue, you can glue anything but it might look ugly. Try experimenting with a little of different kinds of glues but be careful.
