Although the slaughter of innocent people can never be justified, I can understand the utter sense of despair that is evident in Mira's letter. She has managed to articulate what Arabs and Muslims the world over feel at seeing the graphic images of children being massacred thanks to U.S. cluster bombs, hellfire missiles, F16's, Apache helicopters, and other American made weapons. Over a thousand Lebanese were murdered, most of them civilians. Israel's casualties stands at 117, the vast majority being soldiers.
The myth that has been often repeated, especially within the U.S. media, is that Hizbullah started this conflict with the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers. This is utter nonsense. Below is a link by an investigative journalist who exposes that Israel's latest bloody adventure in Lebanon was planned well before Hizbullah's decision to kidnap the soldiers. Many more authors have come to the same conclusion. It's main architect of was none other than 'Bibi' Netanyahu - a filthy, racist ex-Israeli Prime Minister who makes no effort to hide his disgust of Arabs. Along with 'President' Cheney, and other neo-cons, their main aim was to fulfill the objectives of a paper written back in 1996 entitled 'Clean Break' - humiliating Syria, sending a message to Iran, and turning Lebanon into a Christain protectorate. Whether this will succeed remains uncertain. What is certain is that U.S. foreign policy 'continues to be drafted in Israel'. A re-evaluation of U.S. Israeli relations is desperately needed. A policy based on justice, international law, and the implementation of the most fundamental of human rights is needed now more than ever. Only then can we diminish the fury extremists rely on for recruitment. As an Israeli general once said in the 1970's: Drain the swamp and there will be no more mosquitoes.

Of course. The problem is to STOP the retaliation. The hard part about being a superpower is that WE Americans have the responsibility to be courageous so that when someone retaliates against us, we simply stop; we choose to negotiate. That would be smart; and frankly, at this point, it's our only option. Let's just hope that if we get hit it isn't so badly that negotiation becomes impossible.

Do the Lebanese remember that in 2001 the U.N. passed a resolution that Hezbolla was a terrorists organization and They were to disarm them?
Do they remember it was Hezbolla tunneling into Israel to kill and kidnap soldiers that started the conflict?
Do they remember them hiding weapons and non uniformed troops in their homes...Those troops provoked attacks and then bemoaned the killing of innocents that they themselves used as shields?
And do they realize that Hezabolla's arms and money come from the same tyrants they worked twenty years to get to leave their country and go back to Syria?
Don't YOU think they should put the blame where it is due...On Hezabolla!

How sad that so many people are just too damned stupid to realize that Lebanon's problems are Lebanon's fault. It was their fault for letting terrorist scum come to power and also become the defacto government of Southern Lebanon. They attacked Israel, and fired over 4,000 missiles into Israeli cities.
No, blame the terrorist Hezboscum, blame Lebanon's failure to be a real country, but don't blame Bush.

Yes, he is making the world hate us. Justify retaliation? What kind of asstard are you ? You must have a college education to say something that stupid! I could only ascribe that to higher learning.

Considering the army in Lebanon (or the lack of), I doubt if the President has lost much sleep over it. Lebanon allowed terrorists to live in their country and attack Israel from there. They made their bed, now they can lie in it.

Sounds to me like a threat? Do you have any proof of your accusations? If you are just a flaming Lib, go hug a tree and take a nap. If you are serous then turn your self in as a terrorist sympathizer.

YES I DO,
BUT IT IS A VERY DEBATE ABLE TOPIC. CERTAINLY, PROFILING PEOPLE FOR THEIR BELIEFS IS RIDICULOUS & WILL HAVE NEGATIVE IMPACT IN THE LONG RUN.
NOT SURE HOW MUCH O DENT IT IS GOING TO MAKE IN REAL TERMS, BUT IT IS WORTH WAITING FOR..............
