I wouldn't do anything with them if I was you. They could be valuable and you might damage the value. Why don't you keep them in polythene bags so as not to affect your other books?

the way i get smells out of anything is to leave them locked in a cupboard with a strong smelling incense stick. put your books into a small enclosed space with two or three sticks burning, wait overnight. don't worry it should burn anything if your careful and use common sense.
If the smoky smell still remains just try again.
Also if you place an open pack of incense onto the shelves with your books it's smell will spread over the area and get into the pores of the paper.
it works for clothes too if you put packs of incense into your wardrobe or drawers, all my clothes now have a slight smell of Jasmine.
hope i helped.

Hi... It may help to put the books into the open air in order to get rid of the smell. Other than that you should ask a librarian. I hope this helps.
