Do I have to choose between those?

Well, I would choose Pope John Paul II.
He was a great. He was an amazing man who helped the others during his hard and intense life, thanks to his love and his faith.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Because he wanted the job when things were not good at all and He kept the job to try to get everything put back together. He could have left the job after 1 term but he is the only man to be elected 4 times and he wore himself out to do that job the best he could and did not give up. He helped get us through the Depression the best he could and then came WWII and he did not leave at all but stayed and did what he could do and you can see it did him no good just by looking at pictures of him from Beginning to end. He did also prove that people in a wheelchair can do the job as good as anyone!

I wouldn't say favorite, but Hitler might be the most interesting. An example of warped psychology, megalomania, etc. And an interesting study in how a man could lead a great nation like Germany, which had produced Beethoven, Bach, Goethe, Schiller, down such a destructive path. (By the way, Cascade, you're right about Heifetz. No one else did the Beethoven concerto like him.)

Hmm... my most favorite 20th century figure would be Jascha Heifetz, for I consider him to be one of the few who has mastered the Violin.
