America turned to the french during the war of independance, they were your partners for that and were it not for them you probably would not have won....

So you owe your independence to them, why such animosity now?

sorry but the governments aren't quite the same anymore as they used to be and hopefully you are quite aware of that, americas government has turned quite evil in the past decade or so, we had a time of peace momentarily when Clinton was our president, me personally I love the French, don't know to may but I love them anyways, why?? cause they are not trying to kill us yet, and as long as they don't try and kill me and my loved ones over here I could care less what nationality you are, I love you man!!!!!!!

I think "hate" is a strong word. I believe many Americans felt abandoned by the French in the war on terror after 9/11. Some Americans feel the French have forgotten the sacrifices made in World War II when the USA sent hundreds of thousands of men to liberate Europe at great cost (see also: Normandie)

So when it came time for the French to stand by the US, they were no where to be found.

I believe that it has been the French who have a longstanding problem with Americans (as many in the world do). However, having said, that I went to Paris last month and met some very nice Parisians--so much for stereotyping.

Every French citizen I have encountered while traveling has always been rude toward me for no reason. Just my accent alone seems to set them off if I ask them a question (even to get a light for a smoke). I don't claim to dislike the French, but I am definitely skiddish about striking up a conversation with one in an airport or hotel. Since I anticipate a bad response, I won't approach them anymore. Sorry. If you're French, and you'd like to meet a laid-back American, contact me. Maybe you could change my mind. Maybe it'll be like throwing a rock in the water, and the ripples will spread.

Your right, thank God for Lafayette. But let's looks at this:

America came to France's defense in WWI

America came to France's defense in WWII, and if they didn't, you would be German.

Because the US was not willing to provide air support for your campaign in Vietnam, President De Gaul threw the US Forces out of France.

During the cold war, there were more KGB agents in France than anywhere else in Europe, and at the same time France was part of NATO.

Because your forces surrendered to the Serbs in Bosnia.

Because your country chooses the easy over the hard.

Hate - but not by a wide margin... On a Google.com search, you will find 87,900 websites about hating the French. You will find only 85,800 websites about loving the French.

Keep in mind that this probably includes the British, who are well-known for hating the French. So I could be wrong. I'll try to see if there's a way to narrow to U.S. websites only.

I sent you a new question. For this one, are you sure most Americans understand the difference between love and hate?

Some of us (the smart ones) don't hate the French and never did.

I have never been to France. I heard they don't like Americans. I think they're fine and would love to see their country.
