The relationship between the UK and the USA, particularly in terms of foreign policy, needs reassessing in the light of the changing shape of world politics in the C21st. The other things you mention are not so much dictated directly by the US, but are, rather, a side effect of globalisation and technological innovation. However, when a Foreign Secretary can be removed at the behest of an official of a foreign government, as happened with Jack Straw, then we have a right to be worried.

what the terror groups succeeded already is to change the way of life in the free world, this is not limited to one country but is a global phenomenon. the point is that there is very little that could be done to reverse this trend. Security issues are going to cause an ever growing limitation on personal freedoms. even more than that, there are going to be political changes with the rise of more nationalistic, conservative political parties everywhere.
