I love winter.
Getting ready for it, digging the rain trenches, stocking up on fuel, chopping wood, shaking out the winter blankets...
And when the storms are finally here...
Working out in the rain, making sure the barn doesn't flood and the animals are safe and warm, checking the generator, checking the lake level, then coming in, climbing into warm sweats and my favorite sweater and slippers, enjoying a hot mug of tomatoe soup and grilled cheese sandwhiches.
Or, when the power goes out, playing cards by lantern light, cooking in the fire place, sleeping on the run in front of the fire.
Oh, and lets not forget about the sound of rain on the roof, watching the hail bouncing off the deck. The wind rattling the windows, the creeking as it spins the wind neadle.
Oh, and then the winter holidays.
Family coming in for Thanksgiving. Cooking all day inbetween football games and card games. Showing my nephews and neices my vast collection of cookie cutters and the wonderful colors cookie frosting can come in.
Wrapping the Pine tree off my front porch in christmas lights that can be seen from the other side of the lake. Riding out into the woods with my brothers to hunt down that perfect X-mas turkey. Shoveling out the drive so the kids can try out their brand new christmas bikes and skates.
Then there's the yearly flooding. I run a boat down the river to check on and supply the houses when the roads are flooded out. The bad febuary storms and my little cabin could be filled with neighbors, brought in on horse back or hiked in, boated in. They know that I always bulk up for winter and that they are always welcome, neighbor or stranger.
Oh, I do love winter.

I'm ready for fall weather. It's been too hot and humid here to get out and do too much. I'm hoping soon to be able to get out and do some yard work and exercise outside without dripping of sweat after being out for 5 minutes. (Sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound so whiny!)

No, not really. I don't mind the cold weather. But I hate shoveling my car out of the snow. And all those cloudy days! It can be so depressing!

No, not really. I hate snow, the slippery roads and the short days. I prefer autumn.
