No, establishing individuality is very important for kids that age.

I have heard that studies show that those who dress up tend to perform better academically. So, maybe that is one good reason to have school uniforms.

I could be wrong, but I would think that students being required to wear uniforms would also instill some discipline. In other words, there would be a tone set for structure, etc. It seems like kids can get away with a lot nowadays. So, maybe having a bit of structure is also good?

On the downside, maybe school uniforms cost a lot? I suppose that there could be subsidies, however.

My 2 cents anyway. I haven't thought about this subject much.

Personally, I think it would be nice. While it is important for children this age to show their individuality, there are other ways of acheiving that and school is not a place for distraction, it is a place to learn.

I also think uniforms would make the students appear more equal- if a uniform is worn, there is no emphasis on who has more money and who's parents cannot afford to buy their children all the lastest fashions.

It would also be easier and more cost-effective on the parents. I just went school shopping for my kids, ages 6 and 7, and most of the clothes that they had in the store for my daughter, I will not let her wear, simply put, they were too mature-looking, i.e. slutty, for her. And clothes are not cheap. School uniforms may be a bit costly, but in the long run, they are worth the money because you're child will not bother you to buy them that shirt, or that skirt, because they can't wear them to school anyway.

Schools should require students to wear school uniforms, for it'll make them a lot more disciplined and kempt. It is through the uniformity of the dress code that the unity of the school is being reflected. It would also be terribly atrocious to see one student wearing a dress with a plunging neckline and a mini-skirt and the other wearing a baggy pair of pants and a funny shirt, when in fact they are both individuals going to a CATHOLIC SCHOOL. Isn't it ironic? The uniform is not a hindrance in terms of self-expression-- rather, it aims to form within the students a deeper sense of what the role the school plays in their future and how discipline is being practiced among its students.

Well, wearing school uniforms gives the students a sense of loyalty to the school. Also, the school uniform represents the school, so if you would embarrass yourself in public, you would embarrass the school as well, which you obviously do not want. Anyway, I have to wear school uniforms until after Secondary education, where I get a choice of deciding where I want to go, JC => continue wearing school
uniform. Polytechnic => No need for it.

Where we live kids all have to wear school uniform, it has advantages because lots of kids other wise wear designer clothes all the time, they try to out dress each other, this way kids rich or poor all look the same, they don't have to worry about what to wear, they are also wearing sensible clothing, not revealing tops and mini skirts. School is basically to learn not a fashion house, kids have plenty time to be individual after school.

Yes!!! It would save a lot of time and money. Especially in hs where everything is so darn cliquey and based on how you dress. There are some ppl, unlike others, who cant afford expensive designer clothes. And it sucks if guys judge u on how "designer" is ur clothing and whether ur wearing rocawear tees and apple bottom jeans. At least, that's how it is in my school. And another reason is the whole attentiveness in class thing. Guys-and girls would focus more in school if they weren't worried about how they look or whether they looked hot. Its just stupid. Guys would get higher grades if they weren't too busy staring at the opposite sex's mini-skirts and low-cut tops. And girls would have less reputations if they weren't wearing that kind of clothing.

Yes, its a lot cheaper to buy a couple of uniforms and then just have play cloths instead of having your children trying to have the same cloths or better cloths then the other kids. Plus this way they can focus on their studies and they won't be distracted by their cloths. Mainly its cheaper.

Fairness and equality, regardless of race, creed or religion, must be thought in schools. Discipline as a subject too. Standard uniforms should be worn by all, to reflect these values.
