lol yes, it does sound like we're guinea pigs.

but it's called practice as opposed to theory. they put into practice what they learned in medical school. they hold clinics and treat patients first hand.

doctors who choose to go into research, or join the academe to teach future doctors are not "practicing" doctors. they don't hold clinics. they "treat" medical problems via the research route-- they look for answers and share them with "practicing" colleagues so the latter can effectively treat their patients based on scientific data.
