Your question is not all that specific. I'm not sure what you are talking about. "Adequate" would be a room for each person, or enough room for no more than 2 children to have to live in one room. A living room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and bedrooms are the usual necessary rooms of a house. And plenty of storage space is a must. Lots of cabinets in the kitchen and plenty of closet space. A shed or garage is almost necessary if you plan to have any sort of lawn care.

The number of bedrooms is determined by how big your family. A one bedroom is fine for a single person or a couple. But if you have kids you need more than that. How much you can afford is another factor.
One thing I am doing is buying a house off of the tax rolls. However although I can get the house cheap that way I'm going to have to put a ton of work into it before I move in.
