At an interview, a famous soccer star was reported to have said, "if I am not playing soccer, I am watching soccer. If I am not watching soccer, I am reading about soccer." Assuming that the statements are all true and that only one activity can be engaged at any one time, what was the famous soccer star doing at the interview?

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

He's watching soccer.

When not playing, he watches. For this statement to be true, the acts of playing and watching must be mutually exclusive.

When not watching, he reads. But since watching and playing are mutually exclusive, then he must be reading about soccer every time he plays soccer. (I'm hoping he's reading the other team's moves, not going through the newspaper on the field, but I digress.)

If only one activity can be engaged at any one time, he must be watching at all times... because he reads every time he plays.

The star would have to either be watching, playing or reading about soccer while being interviewed.

Based on this, I'd say she was watching soccer during the interview. The first statement, playing/watching, covers 100% of activities. Therefore she never reads about it. It would be difficult to play and be interviewed at the same time, so watching is the only thing left.

Well, there are two possibilities which arise out of the first statement. He states that if he is not playing soccer, he is watching soccer. So:

A. Playing soccer. That means that he is not watching soccer, since he cannot do two of the activities at the same time. However, if he is not watching soccer, that means he is reading about soccer. However, he cannot read and play soccer at the same time. So he cannot be playing soccer.

B. Watching soccer. If he is not playing soccer, which he cannot be, he must be watching soccer to make the first statement true.

You cannot assume that all the statements are true that only one of those three activities can be done at a time because you already have a condition where the soccer player is doing something else altogether. It is not logical to phrase such a question.

watching or playing, either one. and i've heard of some people who can talk and read both at the same time without either one being affected.

suposedly he couldent have been reading and having the interview at the same time, because for many people you cannot read and speak, let alone carry a conversation and have an interview at the same time, but many people are capable of retaining information reading while they carry on a normal everyday conversation. its stupid to limit a human beings possibilitys to only one thing at a time.

and in theory, if you said he can only do one thing at a time, then being interviewed about socer would be something that falls in another catagory besides watching, playing, or reading. he is partaking in an activity besides playing socer, watching socer, or reading about socer, he's doing something else, he's being interviewed. it goes against everything you just asked.

he can only do any one of the 3 activities at once! being interviewed isnt one of those 3 activities, is it?! suposedly hes going against everything he just said. many people can do more than one thing at a time, i can talk on the phone and make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich at the same time! lots of people can, but if this socer player can only do one thing at a time, then if he was being interviewed, he couldent be doing anything besides being interviewed right? what a horrible life, to only be able to do one thing at a time! but if thats what he's capable of, then being interviewed about socer is one thing that wasnt in his 3 things, and is an activity he could only be doing one at a time. if he was being interviewed, he couldent be playing socer, watching socer, or reading about socer. he can only do one thing at a time, and that was being interviewed.

when does he go to the bathroom?
