I want to learn photography as a hobby, maybe turning professional in future. Where to start? From choosing cameras to understanding kind of camera and techniques to use? I'm a total dummy now.

to be a professional photographer u have to learn photography by a fully manual camera.well there's alots of things u have to learn to produce a good photograph....play around with ur manual camera from shutter speed to aperture to ISO,u'll get the manual instructions when u buy a camera, also get a tripod so ur camera will be steady everytime u take a shot! have fun!

I'd definetly start off with a class, so you can learn your way around your camera and the dark room. As for a camera, I'd recommend a Canon or a Nikon. If you get a 35mm, make sure you get one that has manual settings (automatic, are okay, as long as it has both). The Canon Rebel is a great 35mm. You can also get a digital, but they're very rpicey for the good ones, and I can't tell you much more than that.
Good luck.

first of all you should start with a cheap camera that will help you to understand the basics of photography. it is very simple, you just go around and click, click, click. After a certain amount of time when you think that you are ready for better, try to obtain a good photography book or search the Internet for tips about what kind of camera you need to achieve better results, and of course tips on how to produce better pictures.
Here are some tips fore your start:
try to take same picture with your camera with different settings(exposure, zoom, etc) and write down what you did. It will help you to improve your sense for taking pics... and also try taking black and white pics...
i wish you very best...
