We pay for the purification of water and the waste that comes from its use. We don't actually pay for the water per say.

Water is necessary for life! In most countries water cost in restaurants. Water may fall freely from heaven, but the infrastructure to store, transport, and purify it isn't. Next time you are thirsty ask yourself what is the value of water?
If you look at history ALL cities were build around where water was available. It is said that last century was about oil this one is going to be about water.

Tes you are right, water belongs to us all but you still pay for the service of having the water you waste to be pumped back to your local waterboard & have it chemically purified & sent back to your home for your convenient use & consumption.
Hope this clarifies the subject for ya!

Depends on wether you drink the water or bathe in it. Can you get your own water without pipes, purification, pumping and sewage?
Remember pictures of American Indians washing in the river? Others downstream were drinking from that river.
Now add a billion people without adding rivers.....

great point.
in the U.S people have great lawns, great golf courses.
In areas that were once deserts there is so much available.
In the third world water is a privlege not a right.
Many people can not afford water....
The first world countries use thier power to make countries privitize water so as conditions to loan money.
it is not a joke, it is not a minor thing. in the U.S no one worries, but in the third world it is a daily issue of life and death.
