Maybe not the one you are thinking of but it's the song I liked the
best from Tom Waits...."Big Joe and Phantom 309".

Wow...I love Tom Waits. His hit in the 80's was Downtown Train. My favorite Waits is his early early stuff. He rocks my world.

Hendrix! yet I additionally love Toni Iommi and Kirk Hammet. Hendrix' enormous songs incorporate crimson Haze, Manic melancholy, howdy Joe and the action picture star Spangled Banner. Toni Iommi's have been given Iron guy and loopy practice. And Kirk's have been given a number of stuff.

"In the neighbourhood" was a hit for Tom but there was also an Ad for Levi jeans with the track "Heart attack and vine" Blues singer Screamin' Jay Hawkins sang it but i think Tom Waits wrote it. He recorded it also and its F.A.B!!

hooops, that's John Waite I was thinking about, sorry!
I'm going to take a wild guess and say 'Jersey Girl' also sang by Bruce Springteen and later on by Bon Jovi.
