PCMCIA stands for Personal Computer Memory Card International Association. They're basically credit-card sized devices that can be put into laptops to act as modems, usb ports, wireless cards, gps, and a number of other things.

It's PC Card, PCMCIA is the old name back when cards are 16-bit. CardBus is the 32-bit name.

It is Personal Computer Memory Card International Association. It is used in laptops for expanison cards like USB ports, wifi card, network card, firewire card etc...Since many of these ports are built-in, you find very little use for them nowadays.
