Should I be concerned to allow him to play in sports such as hockey? Doctors don't know much about it ....does anyone else have a child with EDS and do they play sports?

It was a cardiologist who said that there's not a lot of documentation for EDS. My son does not have Vascular EDS but is in the 96th percentile for aortic root valve. Are there other parents who are in this 'gray' area with active children? I don't want to hide my son away but want to ensure that i'm doing what's within his limits. Hopefully that makes sense...trying to understand other parents' input as well.

Well I am not sure I would be happy with a Dr. that said he did not know enough about EDS to answer this question, there is tons of information out there about this. I would assume given the aortic issue you mentioned your son actually has Vascular EDS. Given that then yes, playing hockey may be a rather large no no. For others with EDS (6 kinds of this) that answer may vary...but even with the others since this is primary joint related sports could still be a tough one.

One really general overview site:

And I would also recommned finding a new dr.
